Drug shortages have been increasing in number and lasting longer, according to a new report from the FDA that blames the problem in part on a lack of incentives for manufacturers to produce less profitable medicines. Older drugs that have been off-patent for many years are especially vulnerable to shortages, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in the report issued this week.
