Imaging Company Reports Data Breach

Express MRI reported a data breach in which emails containing patient information could have been accessed.

Certain emails include patient name and address, age, referring physician, body part scanned and whether the scan was related to a workers’ compensation claim or an auto accident.

“No Social Security numbers, financial or insurance information or patient images were accessed, lost, compromised or otherwise affected as a result of this data breach,” the company said in a statement.

Express MRI said it learned of the potential breach July 10, 2020, when an investigation identified unauthorized emails sent from a company account. At the time, the company believed patient information was not accessed.

A follow-up investigation completed June 10 concluded that despite finding no evidence that any particular patient information was accessed, it was nonetheless possible.

Express MRI is headquartered in Georgia and also has offices in Alabama.
