Coventry Says Unlicensed UR Doc Was Part of Network

Coventry Health Care Workers’ Compensation Inc. has reported to patients that an unlicensed doctor involved in determining whether to approve treatment requested for injured workers in California had performed utilization reviews for one of its vendors. Coventry informed an injured worker in August about a possible data breach involving former New York orthopedic surgeon Spyros Panos, who surrendered his medical license in August 2013 and three months later pleaded guilty to a federal count of health care fraud for billing for surgeries he didn’t perform.
