After years of trying, some Massachusetts lawmakers and claimants' attorneys hope a last-minute push will move a disfigurement benefits bill out of committee before the legislature adjourns next week.
Since 1991, Massachusetts law has limited disfigurement benefits for scarring to workers with scars on their hands, face and neck, leaving many victims with burns on other body parts without the extra compensation.
"That's just wrong," said state Rep. Sean Garballey, D-Arlington. "Who are we as a state if all burn victims can't get proper benefits?"
