It’s known on the street as special K, a party drug and powerful hallucinogen. The chemical played a starring role in the 2016 HBO miniseries “The Night Of,” a dark tale about a man who took the drug and has no memory of a bloody murder.
Now, despite only limited clinical evidence about its efficacy and safety, and a lack of approval by the FDA, some pain-management physicians continue to prescribe ketamine infusion therapy for injured workers who say that nothing else has helped their intense pain and swelling.
