The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's top attorney, Sarah Morrison, was sworn in Friday as interim administrator to replace former Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Steve Buehrer, the governor's office announced.

Buehrer announced his resignation earlier this month after spending five years heading the state monopoly workers' compensation carrier. Columbus Business First reported that he is joining the public policy practice at the Carpenter Lipps & Leland law firm.

Bueher sang Morrison's praises in an interview with the business newspaper.

"I’ve never believed in surprising or throwing your successor off a cliff," he told Business First. "Sarah has been involved in a number of things, she hasn’t been just chief counsel. She knows policy. I think she is uniquely positioned at least in the short term and maybe long term to step in and not have a big transition period."

Morrison has served as the BWC's chief legal officer since 2012, according to a brief statement posted on Gov. John Kasich's website. She previously was a partner at Taft Stettinius & Hollister, LLP in Columbus, according to the BWC website.

Morrison has a bachelor's degree in political science from Ohio State University and a law degree from the Capital University Law School.
