The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health issued a citation of $276,425 for what it called the first serious willful heat violation.
The agency, commonly known as Cal/OSHA, issued the penalties to Parkwood Landscape Maintenance in Van Nuys after concluding that the company deliberately and knowingly failed to follow heat protection requirements.
Cal/OSHA said the company failed to provide workers with access to water or shaded areas and did not provide proper training on preventing heat-related illnesses.
