A medical provider for inmates at Rikers Island is planning to implement changes to reduce workplace violence hazards for its employees, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Labor.
The company, Corizon Health Inc., which provides medical, dental and mental-health services, was cited in August 2014 by inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for failing to develop programs to reduce workplace violence within the prison. A settlement made with the DOL forces the company to pay $38,000 in fines while implementing new safety standards.
