The California Assembly passed bills that would create a presumption of compensability for heat injuries suffered by agricultural workers, revise Subsequent Injuries Benefits Trust Fund procedures and clarify how prosecutors can pursue self-dealing charges.
The Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed AB 1398, by Assemblymember Avelino Valencia, D-Anaheim, which would allow prosecutors to charge those accused of participating in kickback schemes as a misdemeanor under Labor Code Section 139.32 or as a felony under Penal Code Section 550.
