Every workers’ compensation claim should be investigated for potential claimant fraud, and investigations should include recorded statements, background checks and a review of the injured worker’s social media accounts, a claims director said this week.
Other items to include in a claim investigation are medical reports, independent medical exams, a review of a worker’s past claims, and drug and alcohol testing, said Dennis Tierney, claims director in Marsh’s Workers’ Compensation Center of Excellence.
And surveillance may be useful in some cases, he said.
