Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan signed two workers' compensation bills into law on Tuesday.
The first, Senate Bill 426, increases the cap on unpaid benefits to an injured worker's dependents should the worker die from causes unrelated to the claim. SB 426 increases the cap from $45,000 to $65,000.
The measure's impact on the state, small businesses and Maryland's state fund is expected to be minimal, according to a fiscal note. SB 426 passed unanimously in both chambers of the legislature.
