The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries announced that it fined the state Department of Corrections $84,400 for failing to follow safety rules to prevent the spread of infectious diseases at a jail in Aberdeen.
L&I said it opened an inspection after receiving complaints about a tuberculosis outbreak at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center.
The Department of Health characterized it as the largest TB outbreak in the state in 20 years.
L&I said inspectors found workers at the jail had not been fit-tested for respirators.
