The California Division of Workers’ Compensation announced that the mileage rate for medical and medical-legal travel expenses will increase 2.5 cents to 58.5 cents per mile, effective Jan. 1.
The increased rate must be paid for travel after the start of the new year regardless of the date of injury, the DWC said in a Newsline released Tuesday.
California Labor Code Section 4600, together with Government Code 19820 and state Department of Human Resources regulations, ties the rate to the standard mileage rate approved by the Internal Revenue Service.
