The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced that Handy Technologies agreed to pay $6 million to settle allegations that it misclassified its gig workers in California.
The company, which provides handyman services via an app, also agreed to a permanent injunction to prevent misclassifying employees in the future.
The District Attorney’s Office said Handy must pay $4.8 million in restitution to workers. The money will be divided among 25,000 people who worked for the company — Handy calls them “pros” — between March 2017 and May 2023.
