A Kern County grand jury handed down indictments accusing seven defendants of conspiring to steal at least $330,000 in vocational training benefits from injured California workers.
The California Department of Insurance on Tuesday said defendants, including the co-owners of the Instituto Hispano Americano in Bakersfield, conspired to defraud a total of 21 comp carriers.
Officials with the school allegedly made false claims that injured workers had passed tests demonstrating they would benefit from the vocational training program when the students reportedly hadn’t taken any exams.
