A new white paper that compares actual medical costs following a workers’ comp settlement with amounts projected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services suggests that seeking CMS approval for set-asides may not be the best option.
The white paper, released last week by Care Bridge International, finds that injured workers’ medication costs in the fifth year following a settlement are on average only 64% of costs projected by CMS. And other medical spending was only 55% of the CMS forecast, according to the report.
