The U.S. Department of Labor has compiled information on worker misclassification on a new section of its website.
The web page includes a link to what DOL calls “pervasive myths” when it comes to the misclassification of employees as independent contractors. For example, some might mistakenly assume that a worker who telecommutes or works off-site is automatically an independent contractor. And someone who runs their own business isn’t necessarily an independent contractor, DOL points out.
