Court Upholds Award for Traumatic Amputation of Newly Hired Longshoreman's Fingers

A federal appellate court upheld an award of damages to a novice longshoreman who suffered the traumatic amputation of three fingers after just 10 days on the job. Coastal Cargo, a stevedoring company, hired Faustine Kiwia as a longshoreman in February 2019. On the day he was hired, Coastal Cargo provided Kiwia with some basic training on his role, the types of cargo he would work with, and safety.
