First Responders Charge TPAs with RICO Violations for Denying Claims

First responders employed by the cities of Stockton and Rialto, California, allege third-party administrators York Risk Services and Corvel systematically denied workers' compensation claims in an effort to dissuade injured workers from pursuing benefits and cut municipal comp costs. A lawsuit filed Dec. 19 by 14 firefighters and police officers who worked for the two cities allege that York and Corvel "routinely and improperly chose to hurl frivolous and legally unsound roadblock after roadblock to wrongfully deny care."
