New York City has incurred more than $1 billion in workers’ compensation expenses on claims filed by correctional workers over the last three years, according to a report by the city’s Department of Investigation.
The report says the city paid $340 million for claims by workers with the City Department of Correction in 2024, which compares to the $225 million for claims paid by all other mayoral agencies combined.
