The West Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill that would allow nurse practitioners to diagnose post-traumatic stress disorder.
Although non-physical injuries are generally not compensable in West Virginia, legislation enacted in 2021 carved out an exception for law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics and dispatchers if their employer has elected to provide coverage for PTSD. Under the 2021 bill, PTSD could be diagnosed by a psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor or therapist.
