BOSTON — Preliminary research shows that Injured workers in most states studied are prescribed fewer opioids in most states studies, perhaps because of controls such as prescription drug monitoring programs, drug formularies and treatment guidelines, researchers for the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute said Thursday.
Out of 26 states in the WCRI analysis, 21 saw fewer prescriptions for opioids among injured workers were prescribed pain medications, and 24 states saw reductions in mophine-equivalent doses, according to early findings.
