McKesson Corp., one of the nation’s largest drug distributors, has agreed to pay a record $150 million civil penalty for alleged failure to report suspicious orders for pharmaceuticals, the U.S. Department of Justice announced this week.
The nationwide settlement requires McKesson to suspend sales of controlled substances from distribution centers in Colorado, Ohio, Michigan and Florida for several years. The DOJ said the staged suspensions are among the most severe sanctions ever agreed to by a distributor registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
