The Hawaii Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed a bill that would expand the list of the types of cancers that are covered by workers' compensation when a claimant works as a firefighter.
The Senate voted 25-0 to pass SB 828, by Sen. Troy Hashimoto, D-Wailuku.
The bill would revise a statute that currently declares employers must provide medical treatment to firefighters with at least five years of service for certain types of cancers unless the employer proves the cancer was not associated with firefighting duties.
