The Oregon Court of Appeals upheld a denial of benefits for the partial amputation of a diabetic firefighter’s foot after he developed an infection in a blister caused by his work.
Guillermo Torres worked as a firefighter for Torres Farms. Before his employment began, Torres had been treated for diabetes with related complaints of numbness in his feet.
As a firefighter, Torres had to walk on steep mountain terrain while wearing boots for several hours per shift.
In August 2017, he developed a blister on his left foot. He stopped working the next month because of pain.
