Malter has been practicing in workers’ compensation for his entire legal career, according to an announcement from his friend, attorney Zachary Sacks.

Malter started on the defense side and was a partner in the Evans, Cumming & Malter firm. In its most active days, the firm had 27 attorneys and 89 support staff, Sacks said. Malter served as president of the California Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorneys Association during that time.

But in 1995 he and one of his partners opened an applicants’ law firm, Evans & Malter, said his son Christopher. That became the Malter Law Corp. after Evans died in 2002.

Malter was admitted to practice law in 1974, according to the California State Bar website. He obtained his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego after graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Malter is survived by his wife, Misty, in addition to his son.

Services were held Sunday, April 29, at Valley Outreach Synagogue in Calabasas.
