Berkshire Hathaway carriers combined to write more premium than State Compensation Insurance Fund last year, marking the first time in at least 20 years that a carrier’s affiliates combined to control the largest share of California’s market.
State Fund remained the largest individual carrier in California, according to 2017 market share reports the Department of Insurance posted to its website. State Fund wrote $1.36 billion in premium last year, down from $1.6 billion in 2016, and its market share fell, to 10.6504%, from 12.4363% over the same period.
