Workers' compensation insurance losses from the COVID-19 pandemic could be triple what they were projected to be for this year before the virus hit, the National Council on Compensation Insurance said in an analysis released this week.
Annual losses without the pandemic were projected to be about $32 billion for NCCI-rated states overall. With the virus now infecting more than one million people in the country, losses could now range from an additional $2.7 billion to more than $81 billion, said Jeff Eddinger, an executive with NCCI.
