Providers Not Seeing Increase in Liens as Statute of Limitations Comes into Play

The 18-month window to file a lien imposed by Senate Bill 863 started coming into play at the start of the year, but lien representatives and service providers say they haven't seen an increase in filing activity in January. SB 863 amended Labor Code Section 4903.5 to prohibit filing a lien more than three years after the date the service was provided. The 2012 reform measure also requires any lien for a date of service on or after July 1, 2013, be filed within 18 months – or Jan. 1, 2015.
