Report: Sheriff's Staff Have Largest Share of COVID Claims in County

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has the lowest self-reported vaccination rate and largest share of pandemic-related workers’ compensation costs among county workers, according to a report by Voice of OC.
Sheriff's staff account for about 20% of the county workforce and nearly half of COVID-19 claims (950 out of 2,000) and COVID-19 claim costs ($1.4 million out of $3 million).
About 16% of sheriff's staff are vaccinated, according to the report.
The Social Services Agency, which has about 19% more employees that the Sheriff’s Department, accounts for 482 COVID-19 claims with total costs of $557,431, according to report.
The California Workers’ Compensation Institute reports 172,452 COVID-19 claims filed throughout the state as of Monday.
