After the Michigan Legislature failed to create an insurance fraud investigation unit this year, Gov. Rick Snyder took matters into his own hands. Last week, he ordered a state agency to set up a bureau that will delve into all types of insurance fraud, including workers’ compensation.
The move was driven mostly by widespread concern over automobile insurance fraud in Michigan, which is one of the few states that allow no-fault auto policies and lifetime medical benefits. But supporters say the dedicated department will eventually mean extra scrutiny on comp and other insurance fraud.
