House Passes Bill to Eliminate Security Deposit, Clarify Benefit Reopening Process

The Montana state House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill that would eliminate security deposit requirements for commercial carriers and declare that medical reports aren’t required with a joint petition to reopen medical benefits. House Bill 199, by Rep. Derek Harvey, D-Butte, would repeal Montana Code Annotated Section 39-71-2215. The law requires commercial carriers to post a security deposit to pay for claims if the insurer becomes insolvent or declares bankruptcy.
