The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced an investigation into a medical sterilization service for allegedly failing to protect workers from prolonged exposure to ethylene oxide.
Ethylene oxide is used to sterilize medical equipment that can be treated by steam or radiation. It is a known carcinogen linked to lymphoma, leukemia, and breast and stomach cancers. Prolonged exposure can also cause reproductive and neurological damage.
