CWCI: Minor Back Injuries Make up 1 in 6 Claims

Back injuries without spinal cord involvement account for one out of six claims in the California workers' compensation system, and one in four benefit dollars paid, the California Workers' Compensation Institute said in a research bulletin released on Tuesday.CSCI said more than one in five claimants came from Los Angeles County, where benefit costs were the highest in the state, averaging $29,270 for accident year medical back claims from accident year 2001 through 2010.
