Court Upholds $3.4 Million Verdict for Comp Coverage Fraud

A Texas appellate court has upheld a $3.4 million verdict against a staff leasing business for defrauding the operators of a family trucking business and misleading them into believing they had workers' compensation coverage for a catastrophic injury to a driver, who was their son and nephew. The case, Business Staffing v. Jackson Hot Oil Service et al., No. 08-11-00092-CV, arose from a 2005 accident in which an oil field fire set a truck driven by 27-year-old Cody Jackson ablaze.
