Regulatory changes, improved claims management and increased awareness of potential problems have all contributed to dramatic decreases in prescribing of compounded medications to injured workers, according to one pharmacy benefit manager.
A drug trend report from Coventry found that compound cost per claim fell 65% last year as compared to 2016, while compound utilization decreased 67%.
Compounds accounted for 3% of total drug costs, down from 7.7% in 2016. And compound use dropped, to 0.5% of all prescriptions, down from 1.4% in 2016.
