First responders employed by public agencies in Georgia would be presumed to have suffered post-traumatic stress disorder as a condition of employment, under a bill pre-filed for the 2022 legislative session.
Rep. Gregg Kennard, D-Lawrenceville, introduced HB 855 earlier in November, proposing to create a PTSD presumption for first responders.
The bill would define first responders to include peace officers, corrections workers, jail officers, dispatchers, firefighters, emergency health workers and probation officers who work for a public entity.
