While many states' officials have been overloaded with coronavirus concerns, West Virginia's Legislature last month approved two non-virus measures that could affect workers' compensation and insurance fraud investigations for years to come. House Bill 4361 beefs up penalties and provides a new funding mechanism to the state Insurance Commission's fraud bureau, allowing forfeitures from prosecutions to go directly to the investigations unit.
