While many states' officials have been overloaded with coronavirus concerns, West Virginia's Legislature last month approved two non-virus measures that could affect workers' compensation and insurance fraud investigations for years to come.
House Bill 4361 beefs up penalties and provides a new funding mechanism to the state Insurance Commission's fraud bureau, allowing forfeitures from prosecutions to go directly to the investigations unit. It makes West Virginia one of the few states to fund investigations in that manner.
