The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries on Friday filed emergency rules outlining requirements for employers to protect their workers from wildfire smoke.
The rules require employers to monitor the levels of airborne particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometers, referred to as PM 2.5 in state and federal government air quality reports.
When the PM 2.5 is equal to or greater than 20.5 micrograms per cubic meter, employers are encouraged to implement exposure controls under the emergency rules.
