A federal grand jury indicted former speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Michael Madigan on corruption charges for allegedly using his office to solicit and receive personal financial rewards for himself and his associates.
Madigan was a key figure in reform talks during the administration of former Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner. He described as a “historic struggle” the standoff between the governor, who demanded that work comp reforms be included in budget negotiations, and Democrats opposed to what they characterized as business-friendly changes.
