The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is cracking down on the meat processing and poultry handling industries in the Midwestern states of Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.
The agency has launched a regional emphasis program targeting the poultry industry in the three states and a local emphasis program specifically in Nebraska’s meat processing industry. The sectors deserve special attention, as 7.5 percent of workers in that industry suffer workplace injuries or illnesses, according to OSHA.
