NATL. - Crawford & Co. Sells Legal Services Unit to Epiq
Crawford & Co. announced that it has sold Garden City Group, its legal administrative services unit, to Epiq, an international legal services firm. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Crawford said the sale allows it to focus on its core services and invest more resources toward providing claims management.
As part of the agreement, Epiq will continue to provide ancillary support services to augment Crawford claims operations, the company said.

MS - Nurse Practitioner Pleads Guilty in $1.4 Million Compounding Scheme
A nurse practitioner in Mississippi has pleaded guilty to prescribing unnecessary compounded drugs and defrauding insurance programs of almost $1.4 million, authorities announced.
Susan Perry, 58, who resides in Grand Bay, Alabama, pleaded guilty last week, just a week before her trial was to begin, to conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
The woman prescribed the compounds to people who did not need them, sometimes without examining the patients, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

A plan by the Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission to make it easier to view documents online has been postponed until further notice.
The commission's web-enabled forms management system was set to switch over to a simpler PDF system Tuesday. The commission said in a bulletin Tuesday that it will provide more information in coming days.

TX - Attorney Indicted for Allegedly Overbilling Claimants
A Texas grand jury has indicted a Lewisville attorney on three counts of workers’ compensation fraud-related charges for allegedly billing clients for services that weren’t reported, Texas Mutual Insurance Co. said Tuesday.
The Travis County grand jury indictment alleges that Leslie Casaubon submitted false attorney hours through the Division of Workers’ Compensation’s electronic system. Based on the allegedly false statements, the DWC ordered workers’ compensation carriers to deduct up to 25% of her client’s benefit checks to pay her fees.
