Insurance Deals Spawn Lawsuits, $1.8M Verdict

Two national trucking companies and their insurance deals reveal the pitfalls of putting together complex packages when it comes to providing workers' compensation coverage. One of the cases, filed by Waco, Texas-based Central Freight Lines against a staffing firm, has just ended after a three-year legal battle, with a judgment of $1.85 million in favor of the employer. The second, filed in federal court in September by another freight hauler against a reinsurance firm, has just begun. Minnesota-based Stan Koch and Sons is demanding a total of some $8 million in actual and exemplary...
