U.S. workplaces are getting safer, but the cost of the most serious workplace injuries is rising, according to the most recent Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index.
The number of the most serious workplace injuries and illnesses fell by 1.5% between the 2017 and 2018 reports. But the cost of the injuries, which includes medical and lost-wage payments, increased by 2.9%, reaching $58.5 billion.
The rank order of the top 10 injury causes remained the same as compared to last year’s report, but falls account for a growing proportion of losses, Liberty Mutual said.
