The California Workers' Compensation Institute said that for the third year in a row, the number and frequency of claims reported by public sector self-insured employers fell, while paid and incurred losses increased.
Public self-insured employers covered about 2.26 million workers in the fiscal year that ended in 2025, up from 2.18 million the previous year, CWCI said in Bulletin No. 26-01. Wages and salaries increased 8.6% to $189.2 billion from $174.2 billion over the same period.
