Meat-Processing Injury Rate Improving But Still High, GAO Says

The rate of occupational injury and illnesses at meat and poultry processing plants declined by 42% from 2004 to 2013, but the industry continues to suffer from a higher rate of injuries than manufacturing as a whole, according to a report by the U.S. Government Accounting Office. GAO said occupational injury and illness rates in the meat and poultry packing industry declined from 9.8 cases per 100 full-time workers in 2004 to 5.7 in 2013.
