The California Division of Workers’ Compensation announced Wednesday that it has approved a “carve-out” agreement between the City of Los Angeles and the union that represents the 10,000 employees of its Police Department.
Carve-outs allow employers whose workers are represented by a union to create an alternative dispute-resolution and benefit-delivery system for workers’ compensation. The DWC said there are now 57 active carve-outs in California; 27 cover public safety unions, 21 in the construction industry and nine in other industries.
