Combined loss payments for medical services and indemnity benefits fell about 6.3% to $7.9 billion in 2020 from $8.4 billion the year before, the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California reported.
The WCIRB said $4.2 billion, or 53% of total loss payments in 2020, were for medical services. The figure — which includes an estimated portion of payments made by the California Insurance Guarantee Association — compares to $4.6 billion in payments for analogous medical services in 2019.
