Employer Not Liable for Worker's Death from Sitting still too long

The family of a telecommunications manager who died after working all night at her home office is not entitled to death benefits, a unanimous New Jersey Supreme Court ruled earlier this week. Cathleen Renner, a mother of three, died of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 47 after having spent 10 hours in front of her computer to finish off a work project. A pulmonary embolism occurs when a clump of material, most often a blood clot, gets wedged into an artery in the lungs. According to the Mayo Clinic, blood clots most commonly originate in the leg veins during long periods of inactivity...
