Workers’ comp medical fee schedules are intended to strike a balance between containing costs and giving providers enough incentive to treat injured workers, and states use a range of approaches to meet that goal, according to a Workers Compensation Research Institute report.
“In concept, policymakers would look to find the lowest fee schedule that results in good quality medical providers delivering appropriate and timely care to injured workers,” said the report's authors, Olesya Fomenko and Te-Chun Liu.
